Thali Tray, a popular restaurant, is closing. The Newcastle business announced this with sadness. Rising costs forced this difficult decision.

The city center location is now closed. It was located above Bealim House. The Sandyford location stays open until March 15th. Chef Josh Roberts shared this bad news online Sunday.

Thali Tray operated for seven great years. They join other closing independent businesses. Josh wants support during their final weeks.

Energy costs impact their ability to operate, and VAT also affects their finances. They first opened in Ouseburn in Arch 2 Brewpub. They moved to Bealim House in 2022 when the lease expired. They opened in Sandyford in May 2024.

Josh said costs made them close, and they didn’t want to raise prices a lot. Thali Tray started at Rock Cricket Club. Then they moved to Ouseburn and Bealim House. Finally, they arrived in Sandyford.

They appreciate their amazing staff over the years. He thanks their supportive suppliers greatly. He deeply thanks all their loyal customers, too. They sold their 100,000th Thali last year, and it was their pleasure to serve each one.

Josh asks people to use gift cards this month. He thanks people for their memories and support throughout their run and wishes everyone all the best moving forward.
