A politician, Jamie Greene, asks if these laws are working. He says ministers delayed the ban initially and wants resources to punish lawbreakers. He desires safer communities, free from violent attacks.
In May 2024, two XL Bullies attacked their owner. The woman became seriously injured in Edinburgh, and they took her to the hospital. Sadly, authorities euthanized the dogs. Also, these dogs attacked kids in Ayrshire last March. That same month, they killed a Chihuahua in Glasgow.
Last December, another man got mauled by an XL Bully. It left him scarred while taking out his bins. Owners must muzzle and leash these dogs publicly. Only one person faced charges for no muzzle, and zero face charges so far for leash violations.

Humza Yousaf announced Scotland would copy the ban. Scottish owners face similar regulations. This law came after some serious dog attacks linked back to the breed.
Over 3000 XL Bully dogs are still residing in Scotland. Lacking paperwork could mean the dog gets put down. Police will respond to dangerous dog concerns to reduce risks to everyone.
