Janice Nix, 66, charged in Andrea Bernard’s 1978 death. The girl died after allegedly being forced into a scalding bath.

Police said Andrea was moved to a special burns unit. This unit was located in East Grinstead. Before that, she was at a Croydon hospital. Sadly, she died on July 13, 1978.
Nix was charged on Tuesday, February 18, 2025.
Reports state Nix lives in Clapham, London. She appeared at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court. The court heard about an event that occurred June 6, 1978. Andrea was put into a very hot bath, and this scalded half of her body.
Nix faces another charge. It’s about cruelty to Andrea’s brother, Desmond. These alleged acts happened between 1975 and 1978. Desmond was eight then, and Nix was a teenager, between 16 and 19.
In court, Nix confirmed her name, age, and address. She wore a navy blue hoodie. Police started investigating Andrea’s death in 2022. Mr. Bernard, now an adult, reported the incident. He spoke to the police back then.
The court released Nix on bail. She must give up her passports as conditions. Nix also cannot go to airports or big train stations. She will appear at Isleworth Crown Court on March 19.
