A woman in her 70s died after collapsing in a Wetherspoons pub in Truro. Emergency services responded but were unable to save her.

Emergency services were called to the pub around 2 PM on Saturday, March 1st, after the woman’s collapse. Customers reported that the woman was standing before she fell unconscious to the floor at the back of the pub.
She collapsed near some young women; one attempted CPR before emergency services took over. Police asked people to leave the pub, where the woman was pronounced dead.
Her death is not considered suspicious, and her family has been informed. Devon and Cornwall Police shared that they were called to Lemon Quay around 1:50 PM and found ambulance crews already attending to the woman.
The ambulance crew provided emergency treatment to the woman, who was in her 70s. Sadly, she died at the scene, and her family is aware. Police do not suspect anything suspicious and will prepare a file for the coroner.
Lemon Quay, a lively area in Truro with the River Allen flowing beneath it, is undergoing redevelopment to make Truro more vibrant and welcoming for locals and tourists. The area will receive a £23.6m government grant as part of the Town Deals program.
Plans include replacing concrete walls around the Quay’s subway and improving access to the riverside.
Recently, a similar incident occurred in Prescot, Merseyside, where a man in his seventies collapsed in the accessible toilet of the Watch Maker Wetherspoons pub on February 25th. Emergency services performed CPR and transported him to the hospital. Tragically, he later died.
The pub closed until Wednesday to allow staff to regroup and provide space for the ambulance crew.
