An elderly woman is in critical condition after being struck by a bus on Shields Road in Byker yesterday afternoon.
The woman, in her eighties, sustained serious injuries and was taken to the hospital. She is stable but critical.
The bus involved was a number 12 Stagecoach bus. The driver remained at the scene to assist the police. Ambulances and the air ambulance also attended to the scene.
A Stagecoach spokesperson confirmed the incident and stated they will cooperate with the police investigation. Police closed part of Shields Road, but it has since been reopened.
