Janice Nix faces manslaughter charges in the 1978 death of Andrea Bernard, who suffered fatal burns.

Nix is accused of manslaughter, following Andrea Bernard’s death. The event happened in south London, specifically in Thornton Heath. Andrea suffered severe burns covering 50% of her small body.
She received initial treatment in Croydon, then moved to East Grinstead. Andrea died on July 13, 1978.
Nix is from Clapham, south-west London. She appeared in Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court on February 19.
Nix also faces child cruelty charges related to Andrea’s brother, Desmond Bernard. The alleged incidents happened from 1975 to 1978, when Nix was 16 to 19 years old.
In court, Nix confirmed her name, age, and address. A police investigation began in 2022 after Andrea’s brother, now an adult, reported it. Police charged Nix after the investigation concluded.
Andrea was hurt in Thornton Heath in 1978, and she was hospitalized after that assault. Afterward, she moved to East Grinstead. Sadly, Andrea died from her injuries on July 13, 1978.
Nix is now out on bail and had to surrender her passports. International travel is prohibited for her. She must appear in Isleworth Crown Court on March 19.
