A woman attacked her boyfriend’s lover with a hammer in a pub after learning about their affair, resulting in jail time.

Emma Handley said Allen learned of the affair while pregnant. She confronted the woman on March 13th, but made no threats. On April 5th, the woman went to the Fiveways Hotel pub with her cousin. Allen and another woman entered the same pub, where Allen held a hammer.
Allen walked past a child playing pool and approached the other woman, who sat with her back to Allen. Allen swung the hammer, hitting the left side of her face. The woman screamed in pain as Allen yelled threats, saying she would kill her. Allen’s cousin tried to stop her, but Allen swung the hammer repeatedly.
People intervened and removed Allen, and a family quickly left. The injured woman went to a hospital where she was treated for swelling, a fractured cheekbone, and a 1cm cut. Two days later, she called the police. Allen got arrested on April 28th and gave no answers during questioning.
The victim said the attack impacted her deeply, feeling random and unexpected. “I don’t know why she was so angry,” she stated, describing trouble sleeping and needing pills. She feared being alone at home, adding, “I worry it will happen again.” “I fear being alone outside,” she continued.
“I fear for my family’s safety.” She said old nervous habits returned. “I’m normally outgoing, but now I’m quiet. I worry about my family and friends. My anxiety came back,” she explained. “I feel very down. I never thought this would happen.”
Allen had 11 prior offenses between 2008 and 2010, including assault as a youth. Chaynee Hodgetts defended Allen, arguing the affair sparked the dispute because Allen’s boyfriend cheated while she was pregnant. Her daughter is now 15 months old, and she has an 11-year-old son too.
“She feels ashamed,” Hodgetts stated, noting the victim’s face got injured but surgery wasn’t needed. “She shouldn’t have taken the hammer. It was a mistake,” Hodgetts added. Allen is currently unemployed and worried she caught a disease from the affair.
Judge Mark Bury spoke, noting Allen learned of the affair right before and said the other woman “taunted” her. Allen swung at the woman’s head in public, and the CCTV footage was “shocking,” he said. “Jail is needed due to the severity,” Judge Bury said, sentencing Allen, previously on bail, to 18 months.
Interestingly, the hammer victim was also jailed by the same judge in January, receiving 11 months. Originally, she received a suspended term last July for dangerous driving and other traffic offenses. She committed new driving offenses in November, resulting in her suspended sentence being revoked.
