Jessica Birks, 29, avoids jail after assaulting police officers five times, claiming she wanted help.

Thomas Wickstead described the offenses in court, which spanned from December 2023 to December 2024. She assaulted an officer after her arrest in Adderley Green back in December. Birks also kicked an officer in a police car, though the officer was uninjured.
She resisted an officer in July 2024 and then failed to attend court in September. In November, Birks assaulted an officer in Hanley. She assaulted two more officers there in December and also assaulted an officer in Etruria that month.
Birks admitted to assault and resisting arrest, also confessing to missing her court date. The court gave her an 18-month community order as Birks lives on Newshaw Walk in Hanley.
Callum Starr said Birks has anxiety and depression, also stating she knows she needs help and is willing to work with probation. He noted she had no prior convictions last year.
Birks must undergo alcohol treatment for six months and needs 30 days of rehabilitation activities. Finally, she must pay an £80 fine, £400 in costs, and a £114 surcharge.
