After a 15 year wait, the Wolverhampton Dudley Road project for five shops and eight flats sees new hope.

The land is currently boarded up. People consider it an eyesore. The city council first approved building plans in 2010. These original plans were revised over time.
The last revisions were approved in 2018. The first developer had money problems later. The land was sold in 2019 because of this.
Work started years ago. The site got cleared, and foundations were built. However, work slowed down after 2017. New owners bought the site in late 2020.
They submitted a new application. This includes shops, flats and a two-story extension. The plan features 21 parking spaces. The original plan had a big supermarket and also included four large apartments.
This might’ve worked in 2014, says a statement. But Dudley Road already has many supermarkets. The new client wants diverse local shops. They want smaller retail spots and eateries.
They also believe large apartments are hard to fill. Market research showed little interest in large spaces, but more interest in smaller places.
