Reconstruction of Wickford’s ticket office starts after five years. The new station will include modern facilities.

This starts almost five years after demolition. The train company says Covid caused delays, and funding issues slowed them down too. The new station has a ticket office, waiting areas, and toilets.
The old building came down in 2020. Now, hoardings and a temp office exist. A councillor is glad for a new ticket office, although he liked the old one better. He thinks ticket offices still matter because some folks need help buying tickets.
A local MP is very happy about this rebuild. He pushed for it for nearly three years and thinks Wickford deserves a modern station. Work should begin soon, and he will watch the progress closely, hoping it finishes next year.
A manager at the train company is also happy. They signed the contract to upgrade Wickford and will share timing details in the Spring. They want to give customers better facilities.
