Wesley Hall in Whitby will transform into a bar with live music and film screenings after council approval.

Helmsley Brewing Company proposed the change. Wesley Hall on Church Street is the location. They got permission to sell alcohol, have live music, and operate from 10 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., seven days a week. Alcohol service runs from noon to 11 p.m.
The venue will serve both food and drinks. They plan to have live music and also want to show films sometimes.
Locals objected to outdoor seating, and the council agreed, citing noise worries. No soundproofing plans were presented. People cannot eat, drink, gather, or smoke outside at any time.
Customers can’t use the mezzanine on the first floor inside; the roof space is also off-limits.
The chapel is in a historic area and has stained glass windows. The plan won’t change the building, which has ornate brick and stone features.
According to council officers, the project won’t harm nearby buildings and will protect the conservation area’s character.
The building’s rooflights cannot be used while open, and they also must have a noise plan. The council requires this before work begins because homes are nearby.
