Shoppers narrowly avoided injury when heavy seats were thrown from an upper level at Westfield in East London.

A video spread online that seemed to show a teen lifting the seat. Then, they tossed it over the edge, and afterwards, the teens ran away laughing.
Inspector Dan Window spoke about the event, stating that it happened on Saturday, March 1st. The seat barely missed people; luckily, no one got hurt. Police learned about it on Monday, March 3rd, and they continue to look into it.
Uma Kumaran, a local MP, called the event shocking. She said videos of this made her feel distressed, as lives were put in danger at Westfield Stratford.
Kumaran wants to meet with Newham’s Borough Commander to learn how they plan to find who did this. She also wants more police visible, so the community can feel secure. She also spoke to people at City Hall.
She wants Stratford back from crime so people know that offenders will get caught, and that tough action is needed. Stratford is very busy, and Westfield is a huge shopping center. They cannot allow lawless actions.
Everyone should feel safe in Stratford, and it is key that all visitors stay safe. Kumaran will keep pushing for this at every level of power.
MyLondon reached out to Westfield, but Westfield did not give a statement.
