A new website lets people check local air quality. West Midlands residents can use this tool. It shows how clean the air is nearby.

Hi-tech sensors collect air data constantly. The government provided the funding for them. These sensors are all over the region, by homes, schools, and businesses. You can see the data at cleanair.wmca.org.uk.

The website shows levels of tiny particles. These particles come from wood burners, tires, construction, and factories. They can make health problems worse, including asthma, heart disease, and cancer. Sensors also track nitrogen dioxide, which comes from roads and industry.

West Midlands has high air pollution, causing over 2,000 early deaths each year. Mayor Richard Parker wants to make changes. He invests in healthier homes and greener businesses, focusing on zero-emission public transport.

The West Midlands has a big air sensor network. People now get information to take action, providing a brighter future for all. Residents are working on air quality projects too. They are changing routines to improve the air.

Monitoring occurs at homes with log burners and at building sites. Pharmacists help people reduce their exposure. People choose greener travel options as well.

Some Walsall residents used special sensor backpacks. They recorded the air quality daily. Charlotte Gough participated in the trial and learned about air quality’s impact. Exercise exposed her to poor air.

Charlotte now changes her routines. She walks or bikes when possible. When driving, she checks her car’s tires, keeps her windows closed more often, and turns off the engine when parked.

EarthSense provided the air quality sensors. They deliver a local sensor network. It gives real-time pollution information, helping people make informed decisions. This supports cleaner, healthier communities.
