The West Midlands got extra money for road repairs. It’s enough to fix 88,000 potholes. West Midlands roads have lots of potholes.

Richard Parker announced more highway repair funding. The increase is thirty percent. This will fill potholes and resurface roads so drivers will have a smoother ride.

The Department for Transport gave £8.6 million more. This is added to the £24 million already planned for 2025/26.

Coventry, Dudley, Sandwell, Solihull, Walsall, and Wolverhampton will get the money based on a formula. Birmingham’s road repairs have separate funding.

Councils can fix more roads now and prevent potholes, which boosts safety and cuts repair costs for drivers. New methods can make roads last longer so pothole risk would shrink too.

Parker said many roads have dangerous potholes, blaming years of under investment. This funding helps councils fix more roads, allowing drivers to have safer, faster trips and experience less vehicle wear.

Transport for West Midlands studies new road materials as part of a government funded project. The materials reduce carbon and some last longer than the old ones, and they are testing this new technology with the help of Scotland’s North Lanarkshire Council.
