New Quay, Wales, famed for its beauty, struggles with remoteness. Shops are far, impacting daily life.

New Quay is very isolated, with just over one thousand people. The nearest big shops are twenty miles away, and the train station is a forty-minute drive away in Aberystwyth, a different town. Getting to a doctor, a bank, or a school takes almost seven miles.
A YouTuber, Wandering Turnip, visited New Quay to check out life there. He thought the town was gorgeous and loved the colorful, unique houses that looked great together.
Wales doesn’t have many big roads; New Quay uses the A487, which connects it to nearby towns. The YouTuber drove there and noticed the lack of motorways in mid-Wales. This made the towns feel more isolated, which could be good or bad.
One local needed an operation and had to travel to Swansea. First, he went to Aberystwyth, followed by a long ride to Swansea, and then had to get home from Aberystwyth himself.
The YouTuber saw a lack of basic things such as banks, supermarkets, and trains. ATMs were rare too, and buses are the main option if you don’t drive.
New Quay was once a fishing village, with herring as its main catch. Now, fishermen catch lobsters and prawns, keeping the fishing industry alive.
