Waverley in Surrey shines as one of the safest areas in England and Wales, boasting low crime rates according to a new crime map.

Police in England and Wales tracked crime, recording over five million non-fraud crimes for the year ending September 2024. Surrey Police alone recorded 74,395 crimes.
Police split areas into smaller groups, roughly matching local areas. Crime rates compare different places fairly, by looking at crimes per 1,000 residents, considering population sizes.
Spelthorne has Surrey’s highest crime rate at 84 crimes per 1,000 people, meaning one crime for every eleven people. Guildford comes next, followed closely by Runnymede.
Waverley has a rate of 41 crimes per 1,000, which is one crime for every 24 residents. Several areas are safer overall, with Broadland topping the entire list.
National crime figures show mixed results: homicides decreased by four percent, while knife crimes rose by four percent. Firearm offenses jumped much higher.
The Crime Survey also got published, which utilizes face-to-face conversations. It measures the amount of crime and its related social impact. This poll occurs every single year.
The survey estimates 9.5 million crimes happened, including theft, robbery, fraud, and computer misuse. This number grew by about a million from last year, driven primarily by fraud.
The survey also estimates some painful acts: 4.4 million people were harassed, around 2.2 million experienced domestic abuse, about 1.6 million were stalked, and one million faced a sexual assault incident.
