A man from Washington must pay almost £3,400 after waste was dumped and burned in a farmer’s field in East Boldon.

Daniel Hindhaugh, age 46, who lives in Washington, got convicted for refusing to answer questions about the illegal dumping. Waste details traced back to him.
He didn’t attend interviews or court, resulting in a conviction by South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court after the borough council brought the prosecution. Hindhaugh must pay almost £3,400, which includes fines and costs.
The environmental team found the waste while patrolling on August 14th last year. Even burned, they found identifying information linking back to Hindhaugh.
He failed to attend interviews about the waste and got convicted of another offense: not checking if the waste remover was legal.
Councillor Jim Foreman commented on the case, hoping the penalties act as a warning. He urges people to report incidents, which helps the council investigate, as it spends over £2 million yearly to keep the borough clean. Fly-tipping increases costs for taxpayers.
