Wandsworth is fixing roads and paths. They are spending a lot of money this year, about £10.3 million for safer streets. The council plans big improvements and over ten years, they’ll invest £100.3 million, starting in 2024.

The council approved a list of roads to fix in 2025 and 2026, costing £10.3 million. This is Wandsworth’s biggest road project ever, with all repairs happening in a single year.

A council member, Jenny Yates, is happy and thinks the investment is very important. Good pavements help everyone walk safely, especially people with mobility issues.

People often ask for better pavements, wanting them to be as good as possible. Avoiding potholes matters too because they are dangerous for cyclists, and also hurt drivers and their cars.

Last year, the council spent £8 million on roads and pavements. Now, they will spend £10.3 million each year for the next nine years, totaling £100.3 million over ten years.

Council officers wrote a report, stating that more money is needed to stop roads from getting worse. This allows them to improve things a lot, so repairs should be needed less often.

The report says safety will get better, with fewer accidents. Fewer people will get hurt because of bad roads, and public complaints should also decrease.

Good roads are very important because people need to move around easily and access homes and businesses well. Wandsworth’s economy needs good roads, making road care a high priority.

Wandsworth has about 440 km of roads, and the council takes care of most of them; roughly 93 percent of the road network is theirs. Transport for London handles the other 7 percent.

Here are some streets that are being fixed in 2025 and 2026, including fixing the footpaths/sidewalks on these roads: Aldrich Terrace, Almeric Road, Atney Road, and Balham Park Road. Also included are Bassingham Road, Beaumont Road, Bemish Road, and Berber Road. Other roads getting work include Blincoe Close and Bowman Mews.

More places getting fixed are Brightwell Crescent, Carminia and Chetwode Roads, Colinette Road, and Crockerton Road. Denton Street and Earlsfield Road will be fixed, along with Elborourgh Street and Elmfield Road.

The list continues with Eversleigh Road, Fernthorpe Road, Fishponds Road, and Fontenoy Road. Forthbridge Road and Freedom Street will be done, followed by Garton Place, Gateside Road, Grandison Road, and Granfield Street.

The proposed sidewalk work doesn’t stop there. Hendham, Hillbrook, and Howards Lane will be repaired. Then Kennard Street and Kersfield Roads come next, followed by Kersley Street and Lavender Road. Leathwaite Road, Lindore Road, Lyford Road, and Mallinson Road are also included.

The council will also resurface these streets, meaning fixing the actual road surface. Aldren Road and Atheldene Road are among them, and Balmuir Gardens and Balvernie Grove are also getting work. Bessborough Road and Beverley Close are included.

The list goes on with Birchwood Road and Birley Street being up for repair. Blackshaw Road and Blakenham Road will be done, and Bolingbroke Walk and Bramlands Close are included next. Broomwood Road is also scheduled for resurfacing.

The council will fix even more roads, with Putney Hill and Queensmere Road scheduled. Queenstown Road and Ramsden Road are also on the list, followed by Royal Crescent and Savona Street.
