Walsall Council commits to six priorities for net zero emissions by 2041, focusing on green initiatives.

In 2019, Walsall declared a climate emergency. Phase one of their plan ran from 2020 to 2025. The government’s 2050 net-zero goal influenced them, leading Walsall to aim for 2041, matching a regional agreement.
The new plan covers 2025-2028 and includes six key areas for action. They want to protect green spaces and boost biodiversity. Reducing energy use and switching to renewables is also vital for their goals.
They plan to cut transport emissions by promoting walking and cycling. Better public transport is also planned as well as support for electric vehicles. Additionally, they will improve building energy efficiency.
Making communities resilient is also important, alongside promoting green jobs. They hope to make Walsall a leader. Progress needs extra funding, said Gary Flint, who believes failure will harm the community.
