A £200,000 garden transformation begins at Walsall children’s hospice, creating a special space for families and children.

The hospice almost shut down in 2019 due to high costs, and they needed help. Councillor Tim Wilson felt worried because he knew closing would hurt many people, which is why he got involved.
People donated money, and the hospice reopened in 2023 after updates. Now, they are improving the garden; Carmel Caldicott is the matron there, and she spoke about the garden.
She said all kids deserve to play outside, but playgrounds aren’t always easy to visit for hospice families. This new garden helps address those challenges and considers the needs of the children, making a space for laughter.
The garden includes many features, such as colorful areas for play and sensory features to engage the kids. Paths, arches, and a trampoline provide fun, and musical instruments also feature in the garden.
Each bedroom overlooks the garden, and planters, canopies, and lighting are included. Greenfingers charity funded this project; they create gardens for children’s hospices.
