Carl James stole from a Newcastle TK Maxx. He claimed he needed the £150 menswear due to a lack of clothing.

He took menswear worth £150. Cameras recorded him taking the clothing. Police easily recognized and arrested him. He told the court he needed new clothes. This was James’s ninety-fourth offense. The court ordered him to repay £150 to the store.
He admitted to the shop theft charge in court. Rehana Haque described the incident in court. James entered the store last year on May 5. He browsed the men’s clothing section. He put chosen items into a bag. Then, he left the store without paying.
The police identified James from security footage. Andy O’Hanlon defended James in court.
James has a long criminal record. He had ninety-three prior offenses. Thirty-six of those were for theft. O’Hanlon said James pleaded guilty. He stole because he needed something to wear. He wasn’t stealing for someone else.
