Sam Varley’s haunting words, recorded before her death, are used in the trial of Warren Spence, accused of her murder.

Sam Varley is dead, and her words were played in court. She told police how Warren Spence would kill her. Warren Spence, 54 years old, is on trial for her murder. Sam’s body was found last February after a relative called 999, concerned about not seeing her.
Sam had many injuries, including 25 broken ribs, bite marks on her body, and a bruised head. She also had injuries to her face. Some injuries might have been caused by a hammer, which police found at the house.
Warren Spence was arrested in Scarborough, where he gave police a false name and a fake birth date on February 15, 2024.
Warren Spence had a history of domestic violence, and Sam had asked for help before she died. He controlled her behavior and used violence against her. Sam had told people about the violence; he threatened her with knives and choked her until she felt suffocated.
A friend saw Sam with a black eye and a cut on January 15. Sam said Warren choked her and threatened to hurt her children, but she stayed with him for safety. On January 23, Sam texted the friend to say Warren caught and beat her.
On February 7, a friend saw Sam, who proudly said she hit Warren back after he choked and hit her.
Police visited Sam on New Year’s Eve 2023. Footage played in court showed Sam complaining about Warren’s behavior and saying Warren would kill her.
In the footage, Sam seemed scared when she said, “He’s just not a nice man,” and “He’s scared me.” Sam stated, “I’m f** terrified…He just flipped…He’s nutted me…”
Sam told police it happened at home. Having asked for help before, she was still living near him. She plainly stated, “He’s going to end up killing me.”
The prosecutor stated that Warren had a history of violence against women, often choking, biting, and harassing them, and exhibiting controlling behavior. The prosecutor asked if it was a coincidence, asserting that Warren has a propensity for violence.
