Crediton’s welcome signs are missing, prompting police awareness and a social media post by the council.

The town asked Devon council for simple, plain replacements. Crediton council confirmed on Facebook the signs weren’t for repairs. Sadly, someone stole the signs.
Police are now aware of the issue, which occurred around January 24. The signs, which had been there for years, marked roads from nearby villages, including those from Exeter and Sandford.
The missing signs also marked Copplestone and Tiverton. They displayed Crediton’s town seal proudly, mentioning St Boniface, a famous local, and Crediton’s French twin town.
Each sign’s scrap value is very low at £10. Emily Armitage of Crediton council confirmed Devon council didn’t remove them. Someone likely stole them for scrap metal.
Police have no CCTV to review, and the new signs will be different. Now, only the sign poles are left; it is really quite a shame that someone would do such a thing.
