Motorhome and campervan owners in the UK risk £100 fines for unauthorized overnight parking, impacting tourist routes.

Residents complained about bad behavior; inappropriate waste disposal was also a concern. This led to the new parking ban as the council committee agreed to recommend it. This affects two key car parks.
The council wants campervans in designated sites only. Parking fines are now £100, but you can pay within 14 days and get a £50 discount. Councillor McGillivray supports the policy, saying drivers ignore “no overnight” signs.
Some worry about unintended effects. Campervans might park in laybys instead, which could increase disruptions in rural areas. The full council must approve the ban.
Implementing it will cost a lot of money. Council officers expect over £40,000 in expenses, with overtime for staff potentially costing about £4,100 and new staff potentially costing up to £41,000 total. New signs also add to the expense. It will cost £1,000 for updated warnings which advise that overnight stays are forbidden.
