A learner driver’s lesson turned disastrous in Dunfermline after a truck crashed into their car at a traffic light.

The 17-year-old driver panicked after the crash, her seatbelt tightened, making it hard to breathe. Shanna Smith, the instructor, helped her get out. The crash occurred near Bothwell Gardens roundabout.
A dashcam recorded the truck hitting the Peugeot 206. The car stopped at the intersection and the impact scattered glass, knocking off the rear dashcam. Debris landed all over the road.
Shanna said they were approaching lights changing from green to amber. She braked to help her student, and then the truck crashed into them. They were both shocked and panicked.
Shanna freed the tight seatbelt, her student was really shaken, so she drove them to the hospital. Doctors checked them and thankfully, they only had bruises. Shanna’s left side hurt.
Pictures showed debris on the road, the truck’s license plate fell off, and the car’s back window broke. The car’s rear end had a huge dent. Shanna has been an instructor since August, and she taught HGV driving in the army before.
Shanna said it was a pupil’s worst nightmare, and she wants drivers to be careful around learners. Her student wants to drive again. Shanna teaches for Ross Muirhead School of Motoring now.
She finds it hard to tell students to slow down when other drivers speed up at lights. She thinks that’s what happened in the crash, the truck driver thought they would go. People must stop at lights.
Learner cars need extra caution and they have visible L plates. Another car sped past them in the right lane. They were lucky it wasn’t worse and the police know about the incident.
