Colin Permberton, former Leicester Mercury and BBC Midlands Today journalist, has died. Remembered for dedication and integrity.

The BBC confirmed his death on Monday, as reported by the Mirror. Colin tackled big stories in his career. He covered the coal industry’s decline and gang shootings in Birmingham were another focus.
Peter Wilson spoke about Colin, saying he used a pencil and notebook. He emphasized that Colin knew facts mattered most, more than story color. Peter learned this important lesson from him.

Colin died at home last Thursday. He once said he felt proud to be the public’s eyes and ears, asking questions for everyone. He witnessed a big pile-up on the M42 in 1997 while at the BBC. Three people died, and 60 were hurt.
He also had fun, such as rolling down a hill in a zorb around 2006. People have shared tributes for Colin. One person called the news sad, describing him as a great, kind, and fun reporter.
Another person was also saddened, saying he was lovely to work with. He greeted everyone cheerfully and knew every story well.
Colin is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren, all of whom love him very much.
