Property closed in Torquay following complaints of street fights, drug dealing, and antisocial behavior impacting residents.

The police got reports of intoxicated people sitting on doorsteps at an East Street address. The police worked to shut the place down, and that happened on March 6th.
The order keeps people out for three months; the landlord is the only exception. Police stated the behavior really hurt locals, harming their lives and well-being.
A police legal advisor spoke about the closure, mentioning the street fights and drug deals. She said the shouting continued all through the night, and those intoxicated people were a problem.
The bad behavior became a huge issue for locals, negatively affecting their lives. After closing the building, police met with the tenant to ensure access to support services.
They had searched the place before under a drugs act. Officers found some Class A drugs during the search.
The legal advisor said closure orders aren’t the first choice. Police work with support services first, trying to help tenants stop the issues. But sometimes, problems continue; then, they must take further action to keep people safe. In this instance, the closure was the next step.
She knows closure orders don’t fix things for good. Officers will keep working with the tenants later to help protect them and stop more crime.
She thanked the community for reporting what they saw, saying police are listening and acting. She added police wouldn’t have done it alone; community info helped secure the closure.
