Sandwell Council rejects plan for ten flats at the Old Court House pub in Tipton, citing overcrowding and lack of space.

They thought the site would be too crowded. The pub closed down back in 2021. The plan included a new building too; it would have been three stories tall. The council said there was no outdoor space.
Some flats were too small, not meeting the minimum size of ten square meters, which is the standard. Pedestrians would struggle to move around, and there wouldn’t be enough space for bins.
The building’s design also caused problems, as it was close to industrial units. Noise could bother residents. The plan aimed to keep the pub’s look from the street.
The new building would face a courtyard, and each building would have its own entrance. A bike and scooter storage building was planned. The site has good transport links, with a bus and train station nearby.
However, the council approved another plan. This involved demolishing a builder’s yard. Nine new flats will be built on Brick Kiln Street.
Initially, they worried it would hurt church views near the canalside. The council approved redesigned plans later on.
