Former Texas teacher Molly Spears arrested one year after warrant issued for student relationship.
A warrant for her arrest was issued a year ago. Molly Spears is a former teacher in Texas, and she is now in custody. Court records show the specifics of the case: she allegedly had sexual contact with a boy.
Her attorney, Christopher Tritico, spoke about the delay, wondering why the arrest took so long. He learned of the warrant recently after a detective left a business card at Spears’s house.
Tritico called the detective after the card appeared, and the detective said there was a warrant out for her arrest. They arranged for her to post bond quickly. She had taught at Barbers Hill ISD since August.
Spears allegedly texted the 15-year-old back then, asking him to meet up with her. She resigned from her job in June 2023, having worked there since August 2021.
State records show an inactive teaching license. The Texas Education Agency investigated alleged misconduct. She worked at Coldspring ISD from 2012 to 2014, and later, she joined Texas City ISD.
A grand jury indicted Spears on February 8, 2024. An arrest warrant soon followed this indictment, and Spears turned herself in on Tuesday. She posted a $50,000 bond to get released.
She could get 20 years in prison if found guilty. The Chambers County grand jury made the indictment, and the former teacher is now dealing with this serious charge.
