CCTV captures a robber threatening a Gateshead shop worker with a metal bar before stealing vodka and fleeing the scene.

He wore a mask to hide his face. He used a bread crate to keep the door open. The shopkeeper could lock the door remotely. The owner told him he wasn’t allowed there. Eastland ignored the warning and showed a weapon.
The prosecutor, Neil Pallister, described the event. Eastland shouted, “Open the till!” He held up an iron bar. The shopkeeper thought he would get hit. Instead, he pressed the alarm and ran. Eastland stole vodka and left.
Later, he stole meat from Aldi. The meat was worth sixty pounds. He got arrested soon after. He had a fit and went to the hospital. After leaving, he committed more crimes. This happened at a Co-op store.
He attacked two employees there. They knew him because he had stolen before. He wore a mask and filled a basket. It contained laundry products. When confronted, he claimed he had a knife. He threw fabric softener at a woman. It hit her hair, arm, and leg. He also got some on a customer. He threw the bottle and ran away.
The workers felt scared after that. The woman worried about the liquid in her eyes. Later, Eastland stole flowers and detergent. This was from the same Co-op. He also stole items back in June. Plus, he had a knife.
Eastland, 29, lives in Gateshead. He has thirteen prior convictions. He received 32 months in jail. His lawyer, Ian Hudson, spoke in his defense. He said Eastland had drug debts. He got intimidated by bad people because of this debt. He also lost his job and his dignity. That was a big problem for him.
The lawyer said he felt sorry for his actions. He also added the prison conditions are not good.
