A boy confessed to attacking Bhim Kohli. The crime happened while Kohli walked his dog. This message went to a friend. The teen said he would run away. Police arrested him hiding.

Kohli faced racial abuse and a shoe slap. The attacker wore a balaclava on Sept 1st. A girl, 12, filmed it on her phone. She is charged with manslaughter.

Kohli, 80, walked near his home at Franklin Park. He died in the hospital with broken ribs and a spinal injury.

The trial’s third day revealed messages discussing the attack which news had already reported. Someone asked if he hit Kohli. The boy said he saw Kohli hit a girl and claimed Kohli pulled a knife.

A friend heard about an 80-year-old man getting hurt. The boy replied, “I did that.” He said, “He pulled a knife on a girl.” He added, “I regret it” and “Sorry for everything.”

The boy asked a friend for a place to stay because police chased him. He said ten officers were after him. The friend refused to let him stay.

His mom wanted him to come home, but he said police looked for him and that he would explain later. She said to come home to solve it and that staying away made things worse.

The prosecutor announced Kohli’s death, which happened in the hospital at 8:47 PM. The next day, the boy was getting money and planned to bus to Hinckley to run away. Police arrested him at 9:38 PM while he hid in a bush.

Before arrest, he searched “Franklin Park news” and read about the attack on BBC. The 15-year-old and 13-year-old are unnamed; the trial is still ongoing.
