A teacher in South Korea confessed to stabbing an eight-year-old girl to death at a school. Motive is currently unknown.
This happened at a school in Seo District. The girl’s parents reported her missing on Monday because she never made it to her art class.
Police found her and the teacher hurt in the audio visual room. The teacher also had stab wounds, seemingly self-inflicted.
The little girl was unconscious when they found her. Paramedics rushed her to a hospital right away, but sadly, doctors pronounced her dead soon after arrival.
The 40-year-old teacher had neck and arm wounds. She had surgery for these injuries, authorities stated, believing the teacher hurt herself.
Yonhap, a local news agency, broke the story. They reported the teacher admitted to the stabbing. She was a full-time teacher back from leave, and police found no link between her and the girl.
Investigators will question her after she recovers to understand her reasons for the attack. The elementary school closed on Tuesday, officials confirmed.
South Korea usually has low crime rates. Murders were 1.3 per 100,000 people in 2021, much lower than the world average of six. But, there were more violent crimes in 2023, and stabbings happened multiple times.
