Leonard David, 26, jailed for six years after a taxi robbery led to a dangerous high-speed chase through Derby.

David got into an argument with the driver and became aggressive, demanding money. He then punched the driver in the face repeatedly and the driver gave him £10. David continued to punch him and threatened to kill the driver, telling him to do what he said.
They reached Sitwell Street, where David ordered the driver to stop. He demanded the car key and sped off in the taxi, a Volkswagen Passat, driving towards Osmaston Road. Police learned about the robbery.
They saw the stolen taxi on London Road and tried to stop the car. David did not stop but drove through pedestrian areas and went through red lights. He reached speeds of 90 to 100 mph.
The police stopped the chase because it was too dangerous. They later found the car parked on Thorntree Lane and officers saw a man leaving a casino on Exchange Street. He matched the suspect’s description.
The man ran from the officers, who chased and arrested him. The man was Leonard David and police searched him, finding the car keys for the stolen taxi and drugs.
Police released dramatic video footage showing the taxi speeding on Uttoxeter New Road, going the wrong way at a roundabout. Police also found a knife case and blade in the taxi.
David, a 26-year-old from Sinfin Lane in Derby, was charged with robbery, dangerous driving, and possessing a knife. He admitted his crimes, and the court sentenced him on January 16th.
He got six years in jail and also received a six-year driving ban. He must retake an extended test after his ban ends, and the police are happy he is in jail.
