Former Swansea nightclub Mozart’s will be converted into a 26-bedroom shared house following council approval, despite local objections.

They will add a new floor to the building and replace the rear extensions to accommodate twenty-six bedrooms, two kitchen-dining areas, a communal living room, and a gym. A shared terrace adds to the appeal.
The building already had permission for nine flats, so residential use made sense. Six people objected to the HMO plan, worried about noise, mess, and too many shared houses nearby.
The HMO team initially wanted six kitchens instead of two, and highway officers suggested parking changes, deeming the nine spaces too few. However, planners felt two kitchens were enough, given that bedrooms allow for eating and relaxing.
Planners said parking guidelines are less strict now, and the current plan is acceptable with some conditions. The developer must upgrade road markings, fund signs on Westbury Lane, and provide secure bike storage for 26 bikes.
Councillor Peter May discussed HMO limits, wishing the limit was lower, but noted the building needed a plan. He hopes the work respects the area’s design.
