Surrey allocates £1.5m more for grass cutting, starting earlier to improve standards after resident concerns.

The council says this extra money will help ensure reliable grass cutting across Surrey. They will cut grass and clear hedges, as well as clean road signs. Workers also plan to control weeds and remove debris.
This year’s program starts three weeks sooner, hoping to get ahead of spring growth. The first cuts will happen from February to April, with an expected finish by October 2025. Weather conditions may change these plans.
The council says they tripled resources for this, and changed some contractors too. This should mean better service for everyone, kept to specifc standards. Urban areas get six cuts per year. Rural areas get two cuts each year, as do high speed roads.
Designated areas get one weed spray treatment. An online map shows all the cutting locations and when workers will cut the grass.
The council understands residents’ worry, and they know past grass cutting fell short. They listened to what people said, and have invested more for improved grass cutting while cutting earlier this year.
Collecting grass clippings will cost too much, so they won’t collect the grass after mowing. Vehicles that both cut and collect are expensive, but The council might consider them later.
An interactive map shows areas needing grass cuts and details when the work happens. Urban areas get closely cut grass, while rural areas have higher grass cuts. ‘Blue heart’ areas help plant and insect life, and these get cuts in late autumn only.
