A Surrey boy will cycle 200 miles. He wants to raise money for cancer research in memory of his grandma. They had a very special bond, he said.

Zackary is 13 and lives in Horley. He loves cycling and felt inspired after seeing the challenge on the Cancer Research UK website.

His mom, Joanne, spoke to SurreyLive and said it was very sad. Zackary watched his grandma’s health decline; Lynda had endometrial cancer and died in July.

Lynda lived with them for four years, so Zackary saw the effects of cancer. He will never forget her waving as he left for school or biking.

Zackary is neurodiverse, his mom said, and raising money has boosted his confidence. He is asking local shops for help and wants to display flyers for his cause.

Zackary plans to cycle ten miles each day for a total of 200 miles. He is free to cycle many routes, and he owns over ten different bikes. He has road bikes and mountain bikes.

Zac fixes old bikes as a hobby too, making him a self-taught bicycle mechanic. He sells the fixed bikes.

Surrey offers many cycling routes, allowing him to avoid repeating the same path. He will likely cycle his favorite route often, which is Woodhatch road.

Cycling is also a source of money for him. In 2023, he started buying damaged bikes, fixing them, and selling them for profit. He even has a website that teaches bike maintenance.

Joanne said Zackary was unsure at first and set a goal of raising £600. Donations reached his goal by February 20, and he starts the challenge on March 1.

After this, Zac plans another ride from London to Brighton. It is a 54-mile route he will do for his grandpa who died of heart disease.
