A new café opened: Sweetfields Café and Bakery in Wylde Green. It’s on the Erdington/Sutton Coldfield border and took over a former bookmaker’s shop. They promise unique items every visit.

Robert Chalaczkiewicz co-owns and bakes there. He is from Poland and cooked in Australia and Bali before. Robert moved near his sister Paula and started his café across from The Yenton pub. He bakes early, starting at 4 AM.

Robert likes Italian and French food. He worked in Australian hotels and mines and owned a Bali bakery for 20 years. Bali got too crowded. Covid-19 arrived so he came to Sutton.

Kitchen work is challenging, but he has experience and passion. He likes creating and sharing food. Sweetfields opened recently and wants to surprise customers. Izabela Okonsk is Robert’s business partner. They bake everything fresh daily and avoid a set menu.

Robert starts at 3:30 a.m. and pours love into his baking, spreading good energy. He values customer responses and likes the area. They need new suppliers and he wants local milk. Robert says visits will be surprising.

It’s a café, bakery, and deli. They will make cider vinegar, jam, and yogurt, differentiating them from others. Sweetfields will showcase art and musicians will entertain diners. They offer rare coffee: Molinari coffee from Italy.

They sold it in Indonesia, and it’s rare in Birmingham. They are the second seller here, though it’s common in London. He loves the coffee. They also sell Eaton and Bird coffee, a Peruvian arabica. It has vanilla and chocolate flavors. Sweetfields is open Tuesday to Sunday.
