The woman contacted police last October. She said Shipley assaulted and controlled her, even dictating what the kids could watch on TV. He hated her kids and bullied them, especially targeting her autistic daughter. He told the woman when she could go out and who she could see. He constantly insulted her and her belongings.
He made her remove her contraceptive implant. He wanted her to have his baby, and she got pregnant. He then refused to let her breastfeed, calling it disgusting. Shipley hit the woman, even while she was pregnant.
She installed CCTV because of the abuse, which caught him headbutting her during an argument last July. Police arrested him in September. He got bail, with the condition he couldn’t contact her. He then smashed her car window with a brick.
The woman feels emotionally damaged by his actions and can’t stop thinking about it. She said he forced her to have his child as she didn’t want a child with him. He stopped her from breastfeeding and made her feel ashamed for wanting to feed her baby.
He wasted her money on drugs and gambling. She might have to move to feel safe, which would disrupt her children’s lives. Shipley, 32, admitted to his crimes, including abuse, assault, and damaging property. He got 34 months in jail, and the court issued a restraining order.
His lawyer said he takes responsibility and wants to change his behavior. Alcohol and cocaine impaired his judgment, and he feels regretful. He wants to contact his daughter later, but will do so without contacting the victim.
