A Sunderland man was caught on CCTV fly-tipping household waste and sofas, leading to a fine after a court hearing.

This happened on October 28, 2022. Malik Yansane lived on Athol Road. Cameras watched the area due to fly-tipping issues. He left sofas right under a CCTV camera.
Officers found other trash too. They saw a chair and plastic items. Black bags and boxes were also there. Officers investigated and found trash evidence.
Yansane admitted to dumping the waste. He confirmed it was him on camera. He could have paid a fine. It was £300, due within ten days. He received reminders to pay it.
He did not pay the fine. Then, the council started court action. The court case occurred on February 4, 2025. Yansane represented himself in court.
He admitted to dumping items. He lacked permits to do so. He reported fly-tipping before too. The court found him guilty. He had to pay a £300 fine.
Clean-up costs were £245.21. Legal fees were £450. He owed £995.21 total. A council member spoke after the hearing. They said fly-tipping is not acceptable. They will take legal action against offenders.
