Residents are angry. Fire-hit garages have become a dumping ground and a danger, with calls for demolition.

These garages used to be for residents’ cars but now they look like a junkyard with broken glass, mattresses, and just piles of junk. Graham almost had his house burn down.
Someone warned him a fire was close to his place and smoke filled his home, it was awful. He thinks the fires will keep happening and the council isn’t doing anything, he says.
He used to rent one of those garages but now, people dump rubbish and wrecked the wall. Firefighters came twice due arson since 2023. Graham wants the garages gone; he’s fed up. Mice got into his house because of the mess and he even had to kill one himself.
He has no trust in the council to fix this, and Graham wants to move but doubts anyone will buy his house. Another neighbor calls the garages a “dumping ground.” They say people avoid paying for rubbish removal and instead, they just leave stuff near the garages.
The council seems to have forgotten them. Another local, Jenny, wants the garages removed. She says they are always full of rubbish and fly-tipping happens all the time there. She saw it outside her house once.
The council says they’re trying to secure the area and they are working to prevent future problems. The fire service is also working with police. They also ask people to report info anonymously.
