Homeowners and private renters in Stoke-on-Trent may get free solar panels. A £7 million scheme boosts home energy efficiency.

The government’s Warm Homes scheme provides the funds. This grant helps homeowners and private tenants, targeting those struggling with energy bills. Upgrades might start around June 2025.
Think wall and loft insulation to help keep heat in. Solar panels and new heating could also be included. Warmer homes would reduce costs and fuel poverty impacts many there.
Almost 25% of Stoke-on-Trent homes face fuel poverty, compared to a national average of about 13%. There are over 60,000 homes needing upgrades locally.
Chris Robinson spoke about the improvements, stating he wants everyone to live in a safe, warm home. The council improves its own homes already, and this funding expands their efforts. Robinson believes energy bills will decrease and housing quality should also rise.
Reduced carbon emissions are expected. The council team has a great track record, having run similar projects before. For example, they managed the LAD schemes which delivered 375 improvements to 290 homes, and these earlier efforts improved things.
The council will decide on the grant soon, meeting on February 25th to learn the exact amount awarded. Information about applying will be available later.
