Road and bridge closures in Stockton for urban park as ramp removal begins.

Stockton Council said they will remove the footbridge ramp because the urban park work needs this ramp gone to make way. They are building a land bridge and amphitheater now. Removing the ramp helps the footbridge connect the new park.
Demolition happens overnight on weekends for less trouble. You can detour via Maritime Road, Allison Street, and Prince Regent Street. The Millennium footbridge closes until 4 PM on Friday, March 7. Use the Princess of Wales Bridge as a walking detour.
The new urban park will link Stockton High Street to the River Tees. A blueprint exists for Stockton and north Thornaby’s future. It spans 25 years and envisions mixed-use areas and a stronger town center.
The urban park has play areas and spaces, which will connect High Street to the Tees. They will use a land bridge for this connection. Esh Construction worked to lower the A1305 for a year. The road goes under the land bridge, providing a riverside link.
The land bridge runs through the urban park’s middle. It aims to help businesses and encourage more shops, and cafes and restaurants should also increase. Work started in October on the lower park by the river. This makes way for a path along the river, and an amphitheater and garden spaces are also planned.
The upper park areas will appear this year. These are Finkle Square and the Oval Lawn; both spaces will host events. A central play area and water features are planned. There will be a curved terraced seating area that leads to a riverside stage.
