SIRF and the railway bicentenary are two big ones. VE Day’s 80th and the Environment Fair happen too. Stockton Sparkles will also return this year.
Cllr Bob Cook spoke about the exciting events. The railway’s 200th birthday starts the year. The S&DR200 Festival lasts nine months and spans Stockton, Darlington, and County Durham. It runs from March to November.
SIRF remains a key event, drawing visitors from everywhere for free shows. This year, it marks 80 years since World War II ended. A beacon will light in Parish Gardens, and events will recall those who sacrificed.
Armed Forces Day happens in June. People can honor past and present military. Last year’s was great, so expect another good one. More events happen throughout the borough too.
The S&DR200 Festival lasts from March to November, marking 200 years since the first railway trip. Events include outdoor shows and art to be found in museums and public spots.
A new Locomotion No.1 replica recreates the 1825 journey. It runs September 26-28. Groups can join with the S&DR200 Fringe Festival.
VE Day’s 80th is May 8 at Parish Gardens. A beacon lighting will occur there. Expect other borough events too.
The Environment Fair is June 14 on Stockton High Street, promoting eco-friendly living. This fair is part of Great Big Green Week.
Armed Forces Day is June 21 on Stockton High Street. Discover military history and the future there. Expect activities and information.
SIRF happens August 1-3 in Stockton Town Centre. It offers free outdoor arts and street theater, with music, dance, and circus acts. Artists from around the world will perform.
The Festival of Thrift is September 20-21. Find it in Billingham Town Centre and John Whitehead Park. It celebrates sustainability and community. Expect shows, food, music, and shared experiences.
Stockton Sparkles occurs from November 27 to December 7. The High Street will be festive. The launch night is November 27 at 5pm, with music, food, Christmas lights, and a market.
