Major roadworks begin in Stockport next month lasting a year. Expect significant delays due to bridge repairs and road closures.

Network Rail will fix the Greek Street bridge. The armoury roundabout closes March 31. It reopens after one year of work. Use the A6, Edgeley Road, or Stockport Road to detour.
Several bus routes change. Buses 11, 309, 310, 312, 313, and 374 are affected. They will go via Wellington Road. Use Booth Street and Longshut Lane West.
TfGM says bus routes might change again. Check the Bee Network website often. A councillor asks drivers to follow detours. This will help local people.
The bridge work costs £16 million. Network Rail is fixing an old bridge that crosses the main train line. The railway bridge was built in 1958.
Network Rail knows the work is disruptive and they apologize for the trouble. They worked with the council to plan detours. Use the official Network Rail routes.
A council leader said the work keeps roads and trains safe. They are working with partners to ease traffic. They ask for your patience during the work and to expect train changes too.
Easter 2025 will see railway work, readying the railway for the new bridge. Some trains will detour April 19-22 while others will use buses instead of trains.
Network Rail will tear down and rebuild the bridge. They built a temporary bridge over Christmas 2024 to move water and electric lines.
Next month, the road layout goes. Workers will remove everything carefully. From August 2-23, the bridge comes down, then they will install the new one.
The team then moves the utility services back and will waterproof the bridge next. Finally, they will rebuild the road.
The local MP knows it will cause impact but welcomes investment in the bridge. He wants Network Rail to talk to people often, saying this is the right action.
