Another fatal crash happened almost three years ago. Kyle Jones, age 23, died when a BMW hit him while he rode his motorbike driven by Anusan Arumainayagam.
Arumainayagam sped at 75 mph in a 30 mph zone. He fled after the crash but was later jailed after he admitted causing death by dangerous driving. These tragedies greatly affect the community.
One resident who moved from London four years ago said it’s “really bad around here.” He mentioned speeding and running red lights on Audley Road and has seen a lot in the past few years.
Richard O’Leary, who lives on Albert Road, called the new tragedy “sad”. He stated the incident was needless and believes Birmingham needs safer roads. He’s thankful his kids walk to school safely.
Hannah Riley walks her dog on Rymond Road. She sees racing but said it’s worse on Audley Road, noticing drivers speed there near the shops. She thinks the area’s busyness contributes to bad driving.
Police want information about the incident and suggest dash-cam footage from drivers could help. John, who lives on Wyndhurst Road, offered his dash-cam footage to police, as it faced Flaxley Road last night.
John said his camera might have recorded the driver’s escape since it was working at the time. He gave police video for a similar crash years ago in the same spot, involving a motorcyclist.
Tina’s partner resides in the area, and she finds the death upsetting. She feels grateful for life and said life feels fragile.
Anyone with information should call police at 101, using log 3687 from February 9. You can also call Crimestoppers anonymously at 0800 555 111.
