Stechford residents demand action after a fatal hit and run. Officials urge the driver to surrender to authorities.

Police investigated another fatal crash two days later, where someone died on Stratford Road. A Honda driver in his 50s died in that crash. Two men, 18 and 19, turned themselves in. They may have caused death by dangerous driving.
Police looked for the Stechford driver who did not stop after the crash. Mat MacDonald said the driver should turn themselves in. Police will find the driver, Mat added.
Mat, Simon Foster, and others talked to residents on Thursday. Simon Foster is the Police and Crime Commissioner. The road where the crash happened is a speeding area, and residents said they are concerned about it.
Mat works as the Road Safety Commissioner one day a week. Beccy Marston also works to improve road safety; she is the Active Travel Commissioner. Mat says they need more money for road safety and that he wants to protect residents.
People are frustrated, Mat stated, because they do not see enough action taken. Mat thinks things can improve. Safer streets could make people’s lives much better.
Amjid Afzal lives near the crash site and complained about safety for years, asking for enforcement and speed bumps. He wonders how many deaths must happen before action because he sees dangerous driving often.
Cath Palgrave and Martin Price, who lead Better Streets for Birmingham, also spoke. They offered condolences to the man’s family. They want authorities to act faster on road safety.
Mat stated that every road death is awful. Deaths are sudden, happen in public, and many people see them. These events cause widespread trauma, and many face emotional pain because of them.
