George Clarke, 66, retires after four decades delivering The Sentinel and other papers in Stafford and nearby villages.

George delivered titles like The Sentinel. The Daily Mail and the Staffordshire Newsletter were also included. George mentioned the news changed a lot, but the papers he delivered stayed the same.
He said his mornings started super early. George only took 40 days off in all that time. He worked every day but Christmas. He woke up at 4:30 AM to deliver papers. He finished work early each day.
This gave him time to enjoy the rest of his day. But he always had to be ready for the next morning. This year, he delivered around 120 papers daily. He used to deliver more than 200.
George said things are different now. Many people read news online. Older people still read the papers. He really enjoyed his job. He made some great friends. He said talking to him was a highlight for some older folks.
The people in Ranton village recognized George’s service. They held a retirement party for him this month. He delivered papers seven day per week for over four decades. George said his retirement party was excellent!
Many old customers came. They gave him presents and bought him drinks. He saw faces he hadn’t seen in years. Catching up with everyone was lovely. George said news is still important.
Many customers are sad about his retirement, but he was happy to see them all. Now that he’s retired, he wants a relaxing schedule. He is a dog show judge. He also has a large place to keep up. He said he has plenty of gardening to do.
