A speeding, drug-impaired driver hit a 10 year child in Gillingham after running a red light injuring the child.

Danny Butt drove too fast on Woodlands Road on June 24, 2022. He ran a red light at Cornwallis Avenue and hit a ten-year-old boy crossing there.
The boy had bad head injuries. An air ambulance took him to a hospital. Police arrested Butt at the scene, and he gave a blood sample while in custody.
The blood test showed cannabis and cocaine, exceeding the legal limit for cannabis. He was driving with drugs in his system.
Butt lived on Talma Road in Brixton, London. He admitted causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and the court sentenced the 42-year-old to prison. The sentence was three years and ten months on February 12.
He will lose his license for three years after prison. Then, he must pass a longer driving test.
Detective Lee Berridge investigated the crash. He said Butt knew he was unfit to drive using drugs, risking harm to others. He still drove dangerously.
Butt tried to beat the red light, a choice that changed a child’s life. The boy had awful injuries and is slowly getting better with ongoing medical care. He must now adjust to life. Butt is in prison, and his actions should shame him.
