Hey, guess what’s happening today? It’s National Slow Down Day! The police are doing special speed checks. They want drivers to be more careful, and this event lasts 24 hours, ending tonight, having begun at midnight.

So far, they’ve caught many speeding cars. Both regular police and GoSafe cameras helped them find 106 vehicles going too fast. It’s pretty wild to see the speeds they caught.

Someone was going 136km/h in Cavan where the speed limit was just 100km/h. Another driver hit 121km/h in Wicklow, where they also should have been doing 100km/h. A Donegal driver was caught at 117km/h in a 100km/h zone.

Near Enniscorthy, a car went 97km/h, exceeding the 80km/h speed limit. In Portarlington, someone drove 95km/h; the limit there was also 80km/h. One more example is a driver who reached 93km/h in Kildare when the limit was only 80km/h.

The police do these “Slow Down Days” regularly to make roads safer. They hope people will talk about speeding more and that it helps if drivers follow the rules, while also enabling them to catch speeders.
