A young optician did great in Warminster. Hard work paid off for him.

Michael Cooke started at Specsavers in August 2023. He finished his apprenticeship early and received a distinction for his work. Now, during National Apprenticeship Week, he is a Specsavers ambassador.

Michael feels honored to be an ambassador and hopes to inspire other people. He loved the apprenticeship program, and his team helped him develop his skills, also teaching him customer service.

Michael worked at Specsavers on Saturdays to learn while working. Now, he plans to train as a dispensing optician and later study optometry at university. The store directors will support his studies and offered to pay for his education.

Richard Goring, a store director, feels proud of Michael’s success. Michael shows how apprenticeships build careers and provide real growth opportunities. His success highlights the training program, and being an ambassador is an extra bonus.

Specsavers values professional development and received the Princess Royal Training Award in 2024 for this. Richard, Michael, and Luanne Watson-Upex accepted the award at Goldsmiths’ Hall in London.

Michael encourages others to apply, stating that an apprenticeship gave him experience. It also built his confidence, helped him get qualifications, and provided unique opportunities. He met the Princess Royal and talked with Dame Mary Perkins, appreciating these chances greatly.
